Operation success: airport caves to jihadist imams

Scroll down a couple of posts, and you’ll see my theory that the six imams who behaved like textbook terrorists, then were evicted from an aircraft, were actually carrying out an operation which achieved its desired result.

Now in this report from Minneapolis – St. Paul, they’re being served a little more victory:

Airport officials said Friday they will consider setting aside a private area for prayer and meditation at the request of imams concerned about the removal of six Muslim clerics from a US Airways flight last week.

Airport officials will accept the group’s invitation to visit a mosque, airport spokesman Pat Hogan said.

“I think there’s a mutual recognition that it would be helpful for there to be a solid understanding,” Hogan said.

These people are not going to be satisfied until Islam is institutionalized. They understand how to do it, and little tiny incidents like this will add up and set precedents over the long term. It’s too bad the West seems willfully blind to what they’re trying to achieve, even though they make absolutely no pretense about their goals and methods.

Imams execute successful Jihad plan in US airport

Recent headlines focused on a group of six Muslim imams who boarded a US Airways flight, moved from their assigned seats to seats covering the exits of the plane, requested seat belt extensions they didn’t need and stowed them under their seats, and loudly chanted to Allah while criticizing America. When they were removed from the plane, they immediately began criticizing everyone in sight for racial profiling. Most stories left out the fact that the passengers on board cheered when these people were removed from the plane. In my opinion, the imams never intended for the plane to leave the terminal.

The warriors of Islam have discovered a far more effective weapon than a sword, an RPG, or a broadcast beheading. It’s the political correct movement of the West, which will prove to be our ultimate undoing. Grabbing our ankles in the name of tolerance and diversity has sealed our fate, which the Muslims understand entirely. This incident aboard the US Air flight was a battle front in a war on the West, and the mission was accomplished. It was a carefully planned operation which was executed perfectly, and is now achieving the desired result. Not every battle of Jihad includes a bomb or a sword.

The Islamofascists know that they need to keep pushing the issue of tolerance in order to get us to drop to our knees, so they simply need to come up with high-profile examples of perceived discrimination. In this case, they get six people to behave like terrorists (covering all plane exits, acting in a way they KNOW will upset the passengers and cause suspicion) and bait the airline into removing them from the plane. Then they march straight to CAIR and other such organizations, which loudly beat the drum of discrimination. They deny all appearance of impropriety and claim that it was racism, profiling, or other such injustice against the poor, victimized Muslim.

You see, we’ve become such a pusillanimous culture when it comes to the possibility of anyone being offended (except Christian white heterosexual males, of course…they’re the oppressors) that we can easily be swayed by the horrendous possibility of someone’s feelings being hurt. What better tool to exploit than our own self-imposed sensitivity? These people know which button to push, and it’s the Big Red Button of Embarassment. What could be more humiliating than being an intolerant, hateful, hostile, abusive, oppresive, bigoted American? Nothing, it seems…thanks to the politically correct movement.

While we’re talking about the “blind march” into our ultimate demise, allow me to redirect to the Pope’s visit to Turkey. Regardless of any political gains this may have for the Vatican, this visit was a mockery. According to news reports, Pope Benedict went to the Sultan Ahmet Mosque and “turned toward Mecca and prayed like Muslims.” Well, wait a minute! The Catholic Church claims “We define that the Holy Apostolic See–and the Roman Pontiff–has primacy over the whole world, and that the same Roman Pontiff is the successor of blessed Peter, prince of the apostles and true Vicar of Christ, head of the whole Church, and father and teacher of all Christians, and that upon him, in blessed Peter, our Lord Jesus Christ conferred the full power of shepherding, ruling and governing the universal Church, as is also stated in the acts of the ecumenical councils and the sacred canons” (DS 1307).”

That’s how far this has come: a man who claims to the the substitute of Jesus Christ himself on Earth (although he’s clearly not) goes out of his way to legitimize a religion which basically places itself at odds with every single doctrinal element of Christianity! Do you think Jesus would have done such a thing? Of course not…he is God manifest in the flesh. So why would a man claiming to be the stand-in for Jesus do it? Because he’s lying, and caught up in the same worldwide blindness with which so many others seem to be afflicted.

Even from an atheist’s point of view, the Pope’s actions don’t make any sense. He’s going into a place of worship for a false god by his own religion’s definition, then legitimizing it by praying alongside one of its leaders. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” The muslims chant that there is no god but Allah, who never had a son. They don’t reconcile. It doesn’t make any sense from a logical point of view. If he truly believes in Christianity, which he claims to represent, then he most certainly cannot give credence to religions which are in diametric opposition to his own. Yet he blindly marches into the mosque. By the way, the Muslims still say that’s not enough.

If the West continues to willfully bend to the manipulation of the 21st century Muslim advancement, then we surely are bound for a worldwide muslim caliphate. Such things don’t happen overnight, but they do happen steadily. When you look at everything going on right now, it seems that all signs point to capitulation on the side of the West. It seems even the guy who, however inappropriately, claims to represent Christianity on this planet has fallen into the same dementia that will lead to the Western fate forecast this very minute in the Islamic world. If we continue to let ourselves be handcuffed by the political correctness being exploited by our enemies, the West may fall…eventually, slowly, yet steadily. At least we didn’t offend anybody on the way down.

In the comments, one person asked if I had a link referring to the specific suspicious behavior of the imams. The Washington Times reports: “The passengers and flight crew said the imams prayed loudly before boarding; switched seating assignments to a configuration used by terrorists in previous incidents; asked for seat-belt extensions, which could be used as weapons; and shouted hostile slogans about al Qaeda and the war in Iraq.
Flight attendants said three of the six men, who did not appear to be overweight, asked for the seat-belt extensions, which include heavy metal buckles, and then threw them to the floor under their seats.”

Don’t think North Dakota hasn’t got ’em

We North Dakotans like to think we’re pretty level-headed folks, and for the most part we’re right. Then you get the occasional goofballs like the woefully ignorant ND Peace Coalition, with their affiliations to rabid Communist Party members; Ryan Gustafson and his ilk calling us “the Taliban” because most of us oppose abortion; and this fella, who would probably vanish completely from history if not for some North Dakota bloggers picking up on his story.

This fella, Malachi Ritscher, lit himself on fire on a freeway ramp in Chicago this month in protest of the war in Iraq. Hardly a brilliant political statement, especially because nobody had any idea who he was or what he was doing. If it wasn’t for an online suicide note, it’s doubtful anyone would still have the slightest clue what was going on in this poor guy’s deluded mind.

The scariest thing is that he could very well have been a world-famous assassin, if his self-written obituary was true:

“I have had one previous opportunity to serve my country in a meaningful way – at 8:05 one morning in 2002 I passed Donald Rumsfeld on Delaware Avenue and I was acutely aware that slashing his throat would spare the lives of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of innocent people. I had a knife clenched in my hand, and there were no bodyguards visible; to my deep shame I hesitated, and the moment was past.”

North Dakotans have plenty of really scary characters in our midst. Take Cheryl Bergian, for instance. She was the Democrat candidate for Public Service Commissioner, running against Tony Clark. She’s a big-time gay rights activist, most notably known for fighting to have the Ten Commandments removed from public view in Fargo. Did that ever come out during the campaign? No.

Ms. Bergian is one of two employees of the ND Human Rights Coalition, which basically is an atheist homosexual rights group. They also link to groups which oppose the war in Iraq, but once that war is over they can get back to championing sodomy and other sexual immorality while trying to remove God from public view. And this activist almost won a seat on the Public Service Commission! Can you imagine what kind of mayhem she could wreak on those evil utility companies from there?

Whether it’s a hapless would-be assassin or a cleverly disguised activist politician, we’ve got all kinds of folks right here in North Dakota. We just need to be a little more self-aware, lest people like this actually stumble into power and start trying to implement the insanity they fight for when they’re not running for office.

Even if you don’t believe it – THEY DO

Webster defines fundamentalism as “a movement or attitude stressing strict and literal adherence to a set of basic principles.” I’m a fundamentalist Christian. I believe that the Bible is the inerrant, inspired word of God. I try to read it daily, I believe what it says, and I strive to live my life accordingly. I don’t get to pick and choose which parts of it I think are authentic and which parts are not. That includes the parts such as “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

By the same token, what is a fundamentalist Muslim? He reads the Koran and Hadith, believes that they are the inerrant word of their god, written in heaven. They try to read it daily, believe what it says, and strive to live their lives accordingly. They don’t get to pick and choose which parts they think are authentic and which parts are not. That includes the parts that give instruction to “strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers.”

For some reason, nobody seems to want to even address the fact that what these hateful, sick people are doing in the guise of a religion comes from the fundamentals of their beliefs. The muslims believe that the Koran was written by their god in their version of heaven…why would they presume to weed out the parts of it that are not politically correct? If it’s in there, they believe it. Period. And if that’s how their god instructs them, those are the instructions they’re obligated to carry out. Yet nobody wants to acknowledge this! These fundamentalists are the TRUE muslims, the ones who take the words of the Koran at face value. Yet it seems more convenient for the deceived westerners to simply label them as “extremists” and be done with them.

The Religion of Peaceā„¢ at work in Iraq

It’s jaw-dropping to see how the wool is being pulled over Western eyes when it comes to Islam. Even a lot of Christians are deceived about it (For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. –Matthew 24:24) and you have to dig for yourself to find any real information on the so-called Religion of Peace. Go to the solarium at St. Alexius Medical Center and you’ll find a Koran in a glass case, turned to a page talking about how Allah is scolding Israel for being disobedient. This is symptomatic of the entire Western world right now. It’s not just that people are too distracted by American Idol to care, it’s a nearly willful disregard of what the muslim world is doing and plans to do.

Even our own President, who professes to be a born-again Christian believer, refers to Islam as the “Religion of Peace.” It seems like the whole world seems to be grabbing its collective ankles to accomodate Islam, while at the same time trying to rid itself of Christianity. If religion itself is the problem, as liberals claim, then why cozy up to muslims while trying to force Christians out of public society? For some reason Islam is the giant elephant in the room that nobody acknowledges, and it defies all logic or reasoning.

After the September 11th, 2001 attacks, already groups were lining up to make a memorial there that explains why the poor persecuted muslims were forced to do it. The Crusades, which were the Christians’ way of stopping a muslim onslaught into Europe, have been re-branded as a Christian imperialism into the pristine holy lands of Islam. You don’t dare take a Bible or appear to pray in public school, but some of those same schools are requiring classes on Islam. Does any of this make any sense?

Imagine how many European panties would become irreparably twisted into an angst-ridden bunch if President George W. Bush, a born-again Christian, were to preface an address to the United Nations with the following:

“Lord God, I thank you in the name of your son, my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, for this opportunity to address this Assembly on behalf of the great nation of the United States of America. I also praise you, Father, for gathering this body of people together, that we may bring our expression of views and aspirations for the world which you’ve created. We seek you, Lord, humanity craves your Truth, your Justice, and your teaching to love others as we love ourselves. I praise you, Lord, for this blessing, and ask your guidance…in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Democrats would immediately draw up impeachment paperwork, liberal blogs would seethe till the very Internet melted, and the whole world would be raving with fear about the “Crusader” George Bush. He’s been called that already, and never had to utter a public prayer to do so! Yet, here’s how the President of Iran prefaced his address to the UN General Assembly in September:

“I praise the Merciful, All-Knowing and Almighty God for blessing me with another opportunity to address this Assembly on behalf of the great nation of Iran and to bring a number of issues to the attention of the international community.

I also praise the Almighty for the increasing vigilance of peoples across the globe, their courageous presence in different international settings, and the brave expression of their views and aspirations regarding global issues.

Today, humanity passionately craves commitment to the Truth, devotion to God, quest for Justice and respect for the dignity of human beings. Rejection of domination and aggression, defense of the oppressed, and longing for peace constitute the legitimate demand of the peoples of the world, particularly the new generations and the spirited youth, who aspire a world free from decadence, aggression and injustice, and replete with love and compassion. The youth have a right to seek justice and the Truth; and they have a right to build their own future on the foundations of love, compassion and tranquility. And, I praise the Almighty for this immense blessing.”

He really did say this to the United Nations, and claimed on videotape “I felt the atmosphere suddenly change. And for those 27 or 28 minutes, the leaders of the world did not blink. . . . It seemed as if a hand was holding them there, and it opened their eyes to receive the message from the Islamic Republic.” Granted, he’s praying to a god that doesn’t exist, but still…isn’t it amazing how he was praised by the press, accepted in as a great dignitary, and generally fawned over? Had a Christian of any stature tried something like this, they’d have been the subject of an immediate discreditation campaign and run out on a rail. Had the President of the United States prayed before the UN General Assembly, the repercussions would be felt for months.

Video from a mosque in Iraq

Before I get into the eschatological part of this, let me just say this for any atheists or non-Christians who might be reading. I had 11,171 hits on Wednesday alone; I have to assume there are some of you among my readers. Even if you don’t believe in Christianity or Islam or any religion whatsoever, they do. Look at what these people are saying! They’re broadcasting it, webcasting it, teaching it in their schools, and indoctrinating their children with it. Heck, it’s been going on for a long time…wouldn’t it make sense even to the greatest of skeptics that sooner or later, this stuff is going to get some traction?

Now for the religious “end times” stuff. We Christians believe that in the end times, there will be tremendous violence and chaos, at which time a great peacemaker will appear. The born-again Christian believers will then be taken up to be with Jesus in what is referred to as the Rapture. Back on earth, however, this peacemaker is an Antichrist and a deceiver who will bring about seven years of tribulation. He will form a one-world religion, and any who reject it will be beheaded. Those who accept it will get a mark on their head or in their hand. Ahmadinejad is praying for his god to send the Mahdi, a so-called perfect human being, to come and bring peace to the world. Sound familiar? The deception’s running rampant and the pieces are in place.

And who’s doing the beheading these days? Muslims. From the Indonesian muslims that stalked and beheaded a group of Christian schoolgirls last month for a Ramadan trophy to the cowards over in Iraq who can post their beheadings on the Internet but don’t have the sack to do it without a mask on, the beheading club in this big ol’ world of ours exclusively practices Islam. And guess who’s out there claiming that Iran will put a mark on the forehead of its enemies? Good old president Ahmadinejad. I watched Iranian video of him saying it tonight. He believes it’s his duty to bring about the return of their chosen one, which can only be done by chaos and violence. He’s publicly calling for the annihilation of Israel, yet over here the lefties claim George Bush is a terrorist. It’s downright spooky.

While Islam gets a major re-branding and image makover here in the West, it’s amazing how they’re training their kids to be martyrs, even in their cartoons. They’re plotting the bloody conflict with the West, while we sit back and wonder if Britney Spears will get custody of her kids in her divorce from K-Fed and send our kids to “Understanding Islam” classes. It’s just plain sick.

Cartoon teaching little kids to be martyrs in Jihad

This week on CNN Headline News, Glenn Beck hosted a special where they show cartoons, TV shows, and what the Islamic leaders are saying over in their home territory. It is downright chilling. They come here with warm smiles and talk of peace and get treated like celebrities. They then return home and incite crowds numbering in the hundreds of thousands into martyrdom and hatred of the Western world. There’s also a movie called “Obsession” which describes what muslims are saying back in their world, as opposed to what their CAIR mouthpieces are spouting here in the United States and other western nations. Both of these deserve your attention. While CNN Headline News is replaying the Glenn Beck special tonight, the movie is still awaiting theatrical release.

You can view the Glenn Beck special here as long as the link is valid: YouTube

You can find out more about the Obsession movie here on its official site: Obsession: the Movie

Live from South Dakota

I’m right in the thick of it tonight, folks. Deep in south-southwestern SD, it’s interesting how many white Democrats have infiltrated the reservations. They’ve got a push for abortion going on that defies description.

The one bumper sticker I’ve seen so far that has it right says “Abortion is NOT the Indian way.” Yet many seem to have sold their souls to the Democrat party. The reservations seem to be the battle grounds for the abortion debate. As I type this, only 4-5% of the SD polls have closed…but so far the NOs are winning it for #6.

I don’t get it. What if some white guy said it would be a good idea to abort more Indian babies? Then the outcry of “That’s not the Indian Way” would be deafening. Would it be okay if he was a liberal Democrat? So far, I guess that’s the case.

I even saw a twisted slogan on a sign earlier this week: “A woman’s body is sacred. Vote NO on #6.” Apparently since they use a word like “sacred” they must know what it means, right? Obviously not. What if that unborn baby they choose to abort is female? Is her body somehow excepted?

You can’t go a few hundred feet without seeing a “NO on #6” sign here. They’re nice signs, printed on nice paper…likely the best you can buy. Meanwhile, the signs for actual South Dakota and tribal elections are hand-painted, many on particle board. See something weird in that? I do.

Like I said, the polls are closed. Assuming there aren’t any demands for recounts, flocks of white Democrats will leave South Dakota tomorrow, likely never to return. Maybe then the members of the Native Community who bought into their lies. Once they’ve served the purpose of pro-abortion liberals outside of South Dakota, they’ll be left here on “the Res” to rot.

Conrad and Dorgan: Dakotans in Name Only (DINOs)?

This inconspicuous little pair of buildings at the corner of Central Avenue and Constitution Drive has a distinctive quality: it’s the “home” of both of North Dakota’s US Senators. Or is it?

When I lived here, the nice lady who managed the property told me that these buildings are owned by “the Senator’s brother.” I originally understood that to mean Byron Dorgan’s brother because he’s the Senator that “lived” in my building, but further investigation at the County Records room showed me that the Conrad Brothers owned it. They filed a Quit Claim Deed in 2004 to form an LLC titled “GKC Apartments, LLC.” I assume GKC stands for Gaylord Kent Conrad, which is Kent’s real full name. So, apparently Senator Conrad has some ownership in these two buildings…and does his fellow Senator a favor by providing him a nominal North Dakota address as well.

Like I said, I used to live in one of these apartment buildings, and rather enjoyed my time there. One thing I never saw, however, is either of our esteemed Senators in the building. I’m not saying they were never there, but in the time I lived there I never saw them. I hardly think that this is where a United States Senator would live. That raises the question: are they really North Dakota residents, or just DINOs, Dakotans in Name Only?

In the building where I lived, mailbox #6 is reserved for “Sen. Byron and Kim Dorgan.” I did a lot of laundry out in the hallway, and spent a lot of time running out to my garage and back while wrenching on the motorcycles. I would have recalled passing a United States Senator in the hallway, or perhaps seeing his wife doing a load of the whites in those dependable washers & dryers in the hallway. Sadly, I don’t recall a single instance of either.

There is a mailbox in the adjoining building, reserved in for “Senator Kent Conrad & Lucy Calauitti.” While I wasn’t in the same building as Senator Conrad or Lucy, I never saw either of them near the buildings or in the enclosed parking lot, either. Perhaps I was just inattentive, I don’t know.

Scooter and I were wondering if perhaps the Senators had the same lovely olive green appliances etc. that the rest of us plebes had? I don’t mean to engage in class warfare or anything…I just thought it might be an interesting. As you can see, Scooter was rather fond of my green stove, and if the bird of the house is happy, everyone’s happy.

I’ve often thought of North Dakota’s senatorial delegation as Dakotans In Name Only, regardless of where they claim to live. When you examine the voting records of these Senators, you see that:

– Senator Conrad voted the same as Ted Kennedy 96.4% of the time, John Kerry 87.5% of the time, and Chuck Schumer 87.9% of the time.

– Senatord Dorgan voted the same as Kennedy 92.9% of the time, Kerry 84.4% of the time, and Schumer 87.9% of the time.

– Americans for Democratic Action, a group that claims to be America’s oldest liberal lobbying organization, rated Dorgan 95 out of 100 and Conrad 90 out of 100. Kennedy, Kerry, and Schumer all got 100s.

Maybe someone can shed some light on their actual residence. If these are just convenient places to “hang out” while back in ND on business, and not their residences, then I stand corrected. But would they list their wives’ names on the mailbox of such a place? Doubtful. Rather, I’d think that they would leave their names off the mailboxes entirely for privacy. In this case I think it appears as a thinly veiled attempt to maintain North Dakota residency on paper while living it up in Washington…in the company, I remind you, of east coast liberals with whom they vote the vast majority of the time.

I’m not typically in the business of political blogging, but the US Senate is where the playing field is even for North Dakotans. If North Dakotans vote to continue sending a couple of east coast liberals out there to fight for our interests, we’re doing our state a disservice. (I didn’t vote for either of these two when I voted early last week – scroll down a few posts). The only time I ever see either of these two guys is when they fly back to scare the pants off of old people and farmers. I’d like to see them lose their bid for re-election, and see how long they live at the corner of Central Avenue and Constitution Drive.

Vote early, not often

I have been eagerly awaiting Election Day for some time now, but I received the news that I’d be behind a camera for that entire day…so what do I do? Vote early, of course! Having been on the team for those election videos earlier this year, I remembered that I could get an absentee ballot and vote early.

A quick trip to the Burleigh County Auditor’s Office, located on the first floor of the City/County Office Building on 5th Street, provided me with the opportunity to vote my absentee ballot right away. They have a few poll booths set up along the wall for voters who want to vote right away, or you can take your absentee ballot with you and mail it in. I chose to vote right away.

I had to show my ID. I mention this because Kristin Hedger, the woefully misguided candidate for Secretary of State, made such a big stink about it. Without my ID it would not have been possible to know which precinct ballot I should get, for instance…because my ID has proof of my residential address on it. By the way, have you ever wondered why the Democrats don’t challenge the ID requirement here? Is it because we don’t have enough illegals here to make a difference in their favor?

Anyway, I had a happy and easy voting experience. As a Bismarck citizen I reside in District 35, so I made sure NOT to vote for Ryan Gustafson. He’s the one who claimed on the Flickertail Journal blog that Dakotans who oppose abortion are like the Taliban:

“Here’s an idea for a bill for South Dakota: women must wear long, feature-less robes and cover their faces, except for their eyes. They must be accompanied by a male relative at all times outside the house. This way, we can make sure women aren’t going around asking to be raped (because it’s obviously their own fault for getting pregnant – the man who did the deed was just being one of the boys, right?). “(link)

He runs the Flickertail Journal blog along with a guy named Brad Mills, who had this to say about his fellow North Dakotans:

“Plain and simple, the culture in North Dakota is racist, bigoted, repressive, backwards and ultraconservative to the point to where it makes most moderate and liberal people just want to get the hell out of here as soon as they possibly can.”(link)

Obviously I won’t be voting for Mr. Gustafson in this lifetime! I suggest two things: that you don’t vote for him either, and that you tell as many Bismarck voters about this nonsense as you can.

One other thing: Measure #1. What is it, you ask? I don’t know! Yes, I’m ashamed to say it: this one snuck up on me. I was well aware of the Shared Parenting initiative and the Property Rights measures on the ballot, but Measure #1 blindsided me. It apparently deals with trust funds, their distributions, and their administration. Because it proposes an amendment to the state constitution, I had to vote no. I can’t approve a constitutional amendment without knowing the facts. I dropped the ball as an informed voter on that one. You can see the whole text of Measure #1 here (PDF).

If you need to vote early, contact your county auditor’s office. In Burleigh County, it was quick and easy…I’m sure it’ll be the same elsewhere. The only downer is that I did NOT get one of those little “I Voted” stickers – the image above is from the June Primary. But I’m happy to report that county officials are at work to make sure that you can vote if you find yourself unable to make it on election day.

Someone got another big grant

If you spend any time on River Road, you have no doubt seen the new “Reflections” sculpture constructed near Keelboat Park. It appears to be near completion now, except for signage, and prompted me to wonder, “how much did we pay for that?”

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a problem with the sculpture. It’s not like it’s a monstrosity or anything, like the Thunderbirds debacle up by the riverboat dock. It’s actually quite neat; in fact, it allowed me to get this interesting sunset picture:

Some days, however, I question the expenditure. I’ve heard rumours of $50,000 grants for each of these (there are three that I know of so far) and figure that there must be some better way for us as a city to spend that money. I found lots of press releases online, but nobody would mention what those statues cost. I’d like to know. Perhaps when it’s dedicated on November 3rd at 1:30 pm, someone will ask that question. If you do, post it here.

Those union Bobcat strikers are a joke

After helping a friend move in the rain tonight, I drove past Bobcat and saw a few picketers putting in a cold night. They waved as I went by, obviously trying not to look like they’re standing out there in raw greed. I waved back but I certainly disagree with them.

Factory work has never struck me as particularly stimulating. I’ve always considered that the reason that I know a lot of people who like making Bobcat money, but don’t really claim to love their job there. But there are plenty of people hiring around town…if you’re unhappy with your job, thankfully there are plenty of other places hiring.

What’s that, you say? They aren’t paying as much as Melroe at those other jobs? You mean those other places don’t pay you a signing bonus every time the union’s collective bargaining agreement comes up for renewal? Then what are you people so darn upset about?

I worked happily at KFYR-TV for 14 years. When I left in 2003, I could have marched directly over to Melroe and started at a dollar per hour MORE than I had made after almost a decade and a half working at KFYR! And I dare say that editing commercials, generating graphics, and directing newscasts for a four-station TV network is a little more complicated than hanging parts on a paint rack.

Don’t get me wrong…like I said, I worked happily at KFYR-TV for those fourteen years. I didn’t leave because of money. I worked the same sort of silly hours that one would expect at Melroe. But yet I made do pretty well; before age 30 I owned a house, had 5 motorcycles and a beater car…and Scooter, of course. Maybe the people picketing right now need to learn to be content with what they have, because I can guarantee they’re making a lot more than many other Bismarck-Mandan workers.

I tried the union thing once…in fact, I was even the shop steward at KFYR. The lesson I took from it was that people who work very hard get treated the same as people who don’t. Other than that, I really didn’t see a huge benefit. We had even less leverage than the Bobcat workers due to our smaller numbers and, after realizing it was a joke, all the employees let their memberships lapse.

So…now these people want their entire health care paid for by Melroe. I don’t get health insurance at all from my current employer, and I knew that when I tried very hard to get hired there. I’ve never figured it’s his obligation to provide it, either. Employers offer benefits like a health plan as an incentive to hire employees…in this case, there were far greater incentives for me to join the company. If health insurance ever gets that important to me, well…then I suppose I’ll look for a similar job that offers health insurance benefits. But I’m certainly not going to storm into my boss’ office and demand that he provide it. I’d be even less likely to stand outside our office with a sign whining about how unfair he is for not acceding to my demands.

My unsolicited advice for the striking Bobcat workers is to shut up and go back to work, or shut up and go get a job that provides everything that you demand. If you find such a job in the Bismarck-Mandan area, let me know. I’m pretty sure all my readers would like an application and an address to which they can sbmit their resume’.

$@*#&%: Behind the scenes at U-Mary homecoming

Normally, being part of a video crew has its ups and downs. For instance, we don’t have the luxury of actually WATCHING the game…that’s a bummer. We do, however, get closer looks at some of the action or the behind-the-scenes inner workings at a lot of events. That was the case today at the University of Mary game at the Community Bowl. I was part of the on-site crew, not the KXMB broadcast team.

We had a good crew put together and enjoyed a pretty close game. There were some calls that one team or another didn’t agree with, but overall it looked and sounded like a good clean football game. That is, of course, unless you were in the press box next to the guys from Concordia University of St. Paul.

With only a cubicle divider between those of us switching the jumbo video screen and the guys coordinating on headseats for Concordia, there was only a little divider wall. These guys were AWFUL. I heard them shouting words like:

In addition, I heard pounding on the tabletop…heck, we all did. The press box is a tight area. And in that area are microphones for the stadium announcer, KFYR/KFAN radio, and various two-way radio mics. I bet if someone listened to the radio closely or sat near one of the Community Bowl’s loudspeakers, you probably heard these guys in the background.

I looked around in the press box after one particularly loud, foul outburst, and people were all looking at each other in a combination of confusion and shock. The press box area was full of people wearing U-Mary apparel… I never heard any of them say words like the Concordia dudes, even after a couple of debatable calls that didn’t go their way. I think they were too embarassed for the CU guys to even say anything!

I wanted to peek around the cubicle and explain to them that they were being offensive, supposedly representing a Christian university, and at a game hosted by a Catholic school. But, alas…I was being paid to be there as a video crew member, not a representative of the University of Mary. I felt justified in speaking up just as a human being and a Christian, but I didn’t want any comments I made to be misconstrued as being on behalf of U-Mary. So I bit my lip. Thankfully the next home game will NOT be against Concordia University!

So, there you have it. In the end the Marauders lost, and it was probably just a normal football game to anyone in the stands or watching at home. Some of us in the booth, however, didn’t get paid enough to have to sit and listen to three and half hours of that nonsense. Hopefully future guest teams will have a lot better manners than the Concordia St-Paul Bears.
