One of the most prominent buildings along the Missouri River in Bismarck-Mandan is the new Gateway to Science center. With little kids and a membership, I noticed that the old building really could use some work. Thankfully, Gateway to Science was able to build a new facility, and it’s spectacular.
Yes, I know it’s built in a place known for landslides and may end up in the river someday, and that there’s evidence of previous slides right below it, but for now it looks fantastic. There is, however, one prominent feature which catches my eye every time I come through town on I-94 and glance at it: The Blue Rooster.
Here it is. Yes, I get it…it’s supposed to be an atom with its nucleus visible. But the way it’s drawn, I can’t help but see it as a Blue Rooster.
Don’t shoot the messenger: I didn’t come up with this. I saw somebody mention it once in an obscure comment on an even more obscure social media post, and it stuck in my head. Ain’t my fault if it sticks in yours.
Here’s what I’m talking about, in case you couldn’t see it before. Maybe it’s because I’ve been a bird owner, maybe it’s because I’m weird, but certainly it’s because the logo looks like a doggone rooster. And now I want to eat at the Blue Moose in Grand Forks because of the color association.
Am I nuts? Leave a comment. Am I right about this, but nuts anyway? Tell me that, too. But one thing’s for sure: you’ll never see that logo the same way again.
